This year, we'll be raffling off several packages of donated items to support First Book and their battle against illiteracy and aliteracy. First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. They provide an ongoing supply of new books to children participating in community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programs.
Some of the items we'll be raffling include author-signed books, movies, and other goodies. We'll be posting a list soon.
As many of you already know, best-selling fantasy author Terry Pratchett was recently diagnosed with
a very aggressive form of Alzheimer's disease. He donated one
million dollars to the Alzheimer's Research Trust and has asked SF/F fans to match his donation. The
fund drive is called Match It for Pratchett, and we will be collecting donations for Alzheimer's research at the convention.
