Context is a friendly convention focused on speculative fiction literature and related games, comics and films.

If you enjoy manga, anime, science fiction, fantasy, or horror, you'll find plenty to entertain you at this convention.

2003 Context 16 Video/Anime Programming



In 2003, Context 16 took place on October 3-5, 2003 at The Ramada Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio. This is the video programming that was offered:

Friday

7 p.m. "A Little Snow Fairy: Sugar": A young girl, Saga, who tries to be very organized finds her whole life disrupted when she discovers a small Season Fairy named Sugar. The apprentice snow fairy Sugar and her friends Salt and Pepper are trying to become full time Season Fairies, often with disastrous results.

8:15 p.m. "Junkers Come Here": Hiromi is a lonely girl whose best friend is her Schnauzer dog named Junkers. (pronounced Yoonkers) But only Hiromi knows that Junkers can talk, and has promised her three wishes. This charming anime is based on a popular children's book from Japan, written by the rock musician, Naoto Kine.

10:00 p.m. "Crest of Stars": Eight year old Jinto Lin, in a political move, finds himself a hostage to the Abh, the offshoot of humanity that has taken over his home world. Now after several years of study and training, he is returning home as a member of the Abh royalty. He also meets a his first true Abh, the lovely Lafiel, granddaughter to the Abh Empress. Based on a series of popular SF novels by Hiroyuki Morioka.

11:00 p.m. "Outlaw Star": The exciting adventures of Gene Starwind and his young pal Jim Hawkins. This space opera anime also has the experimental starship, Outlaw Star, the beautiful living android who navigates it, a deadly but mysterious assassin, and an always hungry cat-girl.

Saturday

8:00 a.m. "Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind" Hayao Miyazaki's (Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Totoro) classic movie of a ecological post holocaust Earth and the young woman, Nausicaa, who will sacrifice everything to try and save it.

5:00 p.m. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (extended version) followed by "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers": Tolkein's classic tale of good vs. evil with Peter Jackson's award winning films.

Sunday

8:00 a.m. "Whisper of the Heart": Fourteen year old Shizuku loves to read, but she discovers that a boy's name always appears in the library books ahead of hers. Who is this boy who likes to read all the same books as Shizuku. It couldn't be that rude and annoying boy from the other class, could it? A wonderful and gentle love story, Dan Young's personal favorite.
