General Information1. Both carry in and mailed in art are welcome. Artists need not attend Context to exhibit.
2. A good faith attempt will be made to pay artists and agents who attend the convention by check on Sunday afternoon between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. If we can not do this, checks will be mailed out ASAP.
3. Artists or their agents may register their art and, if they wish, hang it themselves on Friday afternoon, while the Art Show is open, and at other times by appointment.
4. The convention charges a hanging fee of $0.25 per item and a sales commission of 10% on all items sold. If the artist or their agent does not pick up unsold art on Sunday afternoon, it will be returned along with a check for items sold within ten days provided that the artist provides a suitable container, return postage and insurance fees at the time the art is submitted to the convention.
5. In addition to any other benefits given by Context to the convention staff, hanging fees will be waived for any volunteer who works for four hours in any phase of the Art Show.
6. The artist may use ASFA forms or request the appropriate materials through the address below. Except for Art marked NFS (Not for Sale), a minimum bid must be specified. Listing a Quick Sale (non auction) price is strongly encouraged. Unless otherwise specified, the convention will assume that art submitted is available for sale at the minimum bid after the Saturday night auction.
7. The artist should assume that insured packages will take longer than usual to be delivered. Mail early enough so that the art arrives before Sept. 25.
8. All items with two or more bids and others as requested will go to auction.
9. Preference will be given to original art and work with Science Fiction or fantasy themes. Context reserves the right to reject an item on grounds of safety, suitability, or available space. Not for sale items will be accepted subject to available space.
Art Show RulesThe Art Show will be open to attendees Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will open for Artist set up on Friday Afternoon and for Art Pickup only on Sunday.
Please do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew in the art show. Do not touch or disturb any art work. Some media are sensitive to skin oils and others are fragile and easily damaged. If you want to see something closely or if you are visually handicapped and need special arrangements, ask a staff member to assist you. If you break it, you bought it at the quick sale price or at the current bid (whichever is higher)!
Do not photograph artwork without the verifiable permission of both the artist and the art show director!
Buying and Bidding on artwork
Written bids may be submitted during art show hours. Write your name, badge number and bid on the bid sheet attached to the artwork. The first bid must equal or exceed the minumum set by the artist. Subsequent bids must exceed the previous bid by at least one dollar ($ 1.00). A bid is a contract to buy and can not be withdrawn. All pieces with only one bid entered as of 6:30 P. M. Saturday are considered sold. All artwork with two or more bids will go to auction.
Some pieces have a Quick (direct) Sale price shown on the their bidsheets. If no bids have been entered on the bid sheets, you can immediately purchase the piece for that price. Write your name, badge number and quick sale price on the bid sheet. Go to the control table and pay for the Art. (The staff will mark it sold), You will receive a copy of the bid sheet to serve as a claim check. Unless you have to leave early, we recommend allowing the piece to remain on display until the Sunday pickup.
The AuctionThe Art Auction will be held Saturday Evening at a time specified in the program. The auctioneer will chose a piece and announce the artist, title and current high bid. Make your bid in a loud clear voice. New bids mist be at least one dollar ($1.00) more than the current high previous bid. If you are not bidding, please remain as quiet as possible out of courtesy to the auctioneer and the bidders.
If you are the high bidder when the auctioneer declares a piece sold, raise your hand and keep it up until the runner reaches you. The runner will record the sale price and your badge number on the bid sheet and give you a copy to use as a claim check when paying for and picking up your artwork.
Art may be paid for and picked up in the art show starting fifteen minutes after the auction. All buyers are expected to pay for and pick up their art soon after the auction.
Art may be available for direct sale at a price specified by the artist after the auction.
